Recur Privacy Policy
This policy covers the Recur app for iPhone, built by Swapnanil Dhol.
Summary
Recur does not require an account. Your subscriptions, reminders, and settings are stored on your device and, through Core Data’s CloudKit integration, in your private iCloud account, so we cannot see or access them. A few things do leave your device: logo search, currency exchange rates, purchase verification, app analytics, crash reports, optional Apple Intelligence summaries (which run on-device), ads shown to free accounts, and anything you send us as feedback.
Your subscriptions
Subscriptions, categories, notes, and reminder settings are stored in a local database on your device. Recur also uses Core Data’s CloudKit integration to store this data in your own private iCloud account so it can sync across your devices. We cannot see or access your iCloud data. If iCloud sync isn’t available, Recur automatically falls back to a local-only database on that device.
Apple Watch
If you use the Recur watch app, your subscriptions are sent from your iPhone to your Apple Watch using Apple’s WatchConnectivity framework and stored in a local database on the Watch. This transfer happens directly between your own devices and is never routed through our servers.
Widgets and Live Activities
Home Screen widgets and the renewal Live Activity read your subscriptions from a local App Group shared between Recur and its extensions on your device. Building them never sends your subscription data anywhere.
Import, export, and backup
Export subscriptions and Import subscriptions in Settings read and write a .recur file you choose to save or open. Restore from backup reviews an automatic local backup the app keeps for you. These files stay on your device (and, when iCloud sync is on, in your private iCloud account) and are never uploaded to our servers.
Logo search
When you search for a company logo while adding or editing a subscription, the text you type is sent to our logo search service to look up matching logos. We don’t tie these searches to your identity.
Currency exchange rates
To convert between currencies, Recur downloads daily reference rates from the European Central Bank. No personal data is sent with this request.
Notifications
Renewal reminders are scheduled locally on your device. Recur does not send push notifications from a server.
Apple Intelligence
Subscription insights are an optional summary you generate from Settings. To write it, Recur sends your subscription names, categories, renewal dates, and spend totals to Apple’s on-device language model, entirely on your device — this is never sent to Apple’s Private Cloud Compute and never sent to us. Insights are only available on compatible hardware with Apple Intelligence turned on.
Purchases
Recur Pro subscriptions and purchases are processed by Apple. We use RevenueCat to verify purchase and entitlement status using an anonymous app user ID. We never receive your payment details.
Analytics
Recur uses Mixpanel to understand which features are used and to find problems. Events are tied to the same anonymous app user ID RevenueCat uses, along with device model, OS version, and locale — never your subscription names, amounts, or notes.
Crash reports
If Recur crashes, we use Firebase Crashlytics to receive a crash report and basic device diagnostics tied to an anonymous installation identifier, so we can fix the problem. Crashlytics does not receive your subscription names or amounts.
Advertising
Free (non-Pro) accounts see ads served through Google’s AdMob network; Recur Pro removes ads. Recur does not request tracking permission, so these ads are not personalized using data collected from other companies’ apps or websites.
Feedback
If you send feedback from Settings, we receive your message, an anonymous installation ID, your RevenueCat subscriber ID and current plan, and basic app/device context, plus your name, email, or a photo only if you choose to include them. We use this only to respond and to fix problems.
Children
Recur is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your choices
You can delete subscriptions at any time in the app, export or delete your data from Settings, and turn off Apple Intelligence summaries or notifications in Settings or iOS Settings. Deleting the app removes its local data; data synced to iCloud can be removed in your iPhone’s Settings under your Apple Account, iCloud, Manage Storage. To ask about or delete any feedback you sent, email us.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
